Pocasts

Well the learning continues.  I went to a conference last week and so i wanted to play and practice some of the things I learned.  So below is a little podcast that my daughter helped me create this morning.

A sad ending

This is it.  My last blog entry required for class is complete, it is rather sad.  I still want to learn new things.  Thank you so much to Leslie for all that you have done to help us learn so much.  I have so many more new tools and skills to help myself and my students.  I am having a great time using what I have learned.  I would say that I use something that I learned in this class everyday.  That are not too many classes, if any, that I can say that about.  This as been a wonderful learning experience and it has motivated me in my classroom to try new things and teach in new ways. I can not say thank you enough to Leslie and all her work and time she has spend to make this class possible. 

Thing 23 – SL

Second Life – How weird is it that you can have another life going on in the cyber world.  They best part is that I can look anyway I want to!!!  (Kidding)  Designing my avatar was fun though, maybe a little too much for me.  I am getting the idea of moving around and I can use the map and teleport to different places.  It seems that when ever I have the time to enter into the SL world that no one else is there.  I have not had much chance to talk with others, I think I need to try in the evenings.  I did find a fun place Sea World and I walked around and look at animals.

What I can not seem to figure out is how to learn about stuff.  There seems to be so much there and around, but I am having trouble learn new information, watching video clips, finding out when conferences are going on.  I think this is because of the time when I go on.  I need to give it a go on the weekends.

Thanks to Leslie I figured out how to dance and do other fun and exciting gestures.  She took me on a little tour of some places.  WE found a very interesting horse man that like to watch us dance and he even played some music for us.  (I haven’t learned that trick yet.)  I think it seems like a video game and is fun and exciting because it is new.  I just hope that I will start using it to learn or I will not use it much more.  It seems to take a long time to figure each new place out and right now I do not have all kinds of free time to walk or fly about aimlessly, but I am still doing it.    WE still need to get on and get a group picture!!!!!!!

Thing 22

I have been using facebook for a little while so the idea behind social networking it not all new to me.  I think it can be a great way to keep in contact with friends or peers and be able to give  the masses a bit of general information.  However I do feel that you need to be careful how you use these site, it seems that is you put information out there someone will find it, so never put private info.  I always think of this when I see that people are going away for vacation, or a message about someone else.  EVERYONE CAN SEE THIS!!!! You might not want them too.  Some people share too much info for me and I think that some people don;t think that others may see what you are writing if they are a friend of a friend.  Because where you share stuff. 

Another professional thing to think about. I just got an email the other day about teachers being fired for things that were posted on facebook, myspace or you tube.  I think that we have to be very careful about what we want the world to see and know about us.  Information travels so quickly with all these sites.  This could be a great thing with something that will be helpful to the group or community, but other pieces you might not want them shared with others and these site are not for you.  I think that sites like Classroom 2.0 would be great ways to share ideas and work with others.  If it was let to professional material, which I think there is a little room to wiggle, but be careful. 

I am feeling a little like Heidi today writing this.  I don’t want all my stuff out there.  For example when I first sign on in already knew me and my hometown and sent a message to Leslie.  What is I wanted to be sneaky, well I guess that means other won’t be able to be sneaky too or that I just don’t know enough to be sneaky. 

Oh well I will keep my facebook, and just watch what I do and I will not be friends with current students.  That what I think is best for me right know.  I am so glad Jen R has now joined the facebook world, I will be able to keep an eye on her!!! HAHA

Thing 21

I have never heard of Pageflakes before, but I do have an iGoogle page as my homepage at home so I had some idea going into this.  So I played around alittle and changed things around a bit.  I did not use Leslie’s template, but looked at some of the things she had.  I tried to a steal one of her flakes with our podcast on it, but could not figure it all out.  So if any of you figure it out please let me know how.  I am thinking of uses for this?????  I was also trying to get my url to share with you my page.  I could see it on Leslies page but not mine.  I will add it later if I can figure it out.

Thing 20

Well thanks to Heidi I got to work on a work in progress that she had started.  I added a few things and have some ideas of changes in the furture.  I also uploaded a photopoint that I had already created and that seemed to work out very well.  I also did a little questionarre for peopl to fill out and I will get the results.  Seems like their are many possiblities with this tool.  I know we have been working in it all along.  One thing I could figure out is how to share.  I emailed it to people, but could not figure out how to get it to come up in their google docs.  Any advise??

Thing 19 Videos

Ok I can do this I have been using video off you tube and embedding them into my blog for a while know.  I have not looked alot into teacher tube, so that is what I spent my time doing.  I found a few fun thing.  One I will share here (and I found it first thing)

I do not have a mac but I am going to pass this on to people who do.

Thing 18 Podcast

Well I actually did it, but I only did a very quick test.  I will never be able to compete with Hiedi (hers is awesome).  I will have to think of something inspiring and do it all over agian.  I think this might be fun!!  Ok lets see it I can embedd it below.?

I just go an idea.  I think I will have to have my ESL students call and add and small podcast to their wiki that we are creating.  OH HOW MUCH FUN!!!

Which podcasts did you preview?

I tried to listen to some of the kickass science – the week in science, Science Friday, David Warlick.  The Naked Scientist. Nature and a few others that I don’t remember the name.

What did you think?

Well from the few things that I listened too my first impression is that there is a great deal of information out there.  I just am not to sure how to find a specific topic.  I found that there is so much stuff and that the podcast seems to last forever and most of the info is interesting, but I am not sure how I am going to use the new tool.  I have got a few podcasts that I have subscribed to.  I have found for me that is of good to listen to a podcast while I am working on something out.  I am actually do that right now.  I am listen to the naked scientist and they are talking about love and bonds of love.  I learned a few other neat things from this podcast.

       Scilands – The Naked scientists 10am Sunday – live For second life!!

      Invisible ink – lemon juice or dissolved sugar and write a message and heat it over a toaster to read

So to summarize my initial response - I don’t think I am going to have enough free time to listen to many of these podcasts.  We will see???
